FAQs & Useful links...

Can’t quite find what you’re looking for, or needing some support whilst you wait? Then please read through some of the most frequently asked questions and make use of the useful links and apps below…

  • Golowhe (pronounced ‘gol-oh-way’) is a Cornish word meaning ‘to glow’, ‘to light up’, ‘to illuminate’, ‘to shine’…

I believe we all have the ability to shine, and sometimes we need support to find the light again in the darkness.

  • There are many different approaches in counselling, and I am trained in the Person Centred (also known as Client Centred) Approach. This means clients are offered an understanding approach that is genuine, fully acceptive and non-judgemental; which allows safe exploration of personal and relational issues that are determined and led by you, the client.

I also offer ecotherapy, which can include various ways to aid in deepening our connection to nature. It doesn’t yet have a single definition and can be called or include different terms (such as nature therapy, blue therapy, green therapy, nature connection), yet the research is clear of the benefits to overall health and wellbeing it can bring. More can be found here

I will never define myself as an ‘expert’ - I do not have the answers or solutions. I believe the answers are within you and I will support you to learn to trust yourself and realise your potential.

  • I support young people (from 11yo+), teens, adolescents and adults.

All individuals of all and any identities and backgrounds are welcome - please get in touch to have further conversation about this.

I can support individuals and groups.

  • As your Counsellor, I agree to maintain confidentiality in accordance with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling & Psychotherapy (Code of Ethics) – see www.bacp.co.uk for further information. I am a member of the BACP and bound by their Code of Ethics.

What you share during counselling will not be shared with anybody else, apart from certain specific exceptions which are outlined in the counselling agreement prior to starting sessions. To maintain professional standards and ethics, I regularly see a supervisor where sometimes content might be discussed, however no identifiable details are ever divulged.

The above is also true when working with young people and although as the parent/carer you may wish to know what has been shared in a session, it is recommended you respect the individual’s privacy and trust they may discuss things further as or when they feel comfortable. A separate contract details this further.

  • No. Your sessions are completely confidential. However if there was a significant risk to yourself or others (as detailed in our counselling agreement prior to commencing sessions), then we would discuss how this would be broken and whether your doctor will be contacted - this is because it is part of GP’s duty of care to liaise with professionals to support health and wellbeing.

  • Once you have signed a counselling agreement, you are agreeing to a space held exclusively for you. As such, you are required to pay for this space (as agreed in the counselling contract) if you would like this be kept open for you this applies even if you are unwell.

If you need to cancel your session, please give a minimum of 24 hours notice. Anything less than 24 hours notice will still be charged at the full session fee - this is also true if a session is missed without communication. If sessions are continually missed without any notice, the contract will end prematurely.

  • Every person is unique and therefore sessions are too to meet individual needs. There is no minimum or maximum amount of sessions. You will usually know when the time is right to end, and your choice is always respected as to whether sessions need to pause or be adjusted for whatever reason.

  • Ideally sessions will take place weekly or fortnightly. As the therapeutic journey continues and you feel you need to gradually reduce sessions over time (such as moving from weekly, to fortnightly, monthly or ‘top up’ sessions), this can be discussed with your counsellor.

  • Sessions are typically up to 60 minutes in length regardless of format type (ie online, in person, walk and talk).

  • £40 per session.
Concessionary rate available for students/low income households.

  • Locations are across mid-Cornwall from the coast, to woodlands, to trails, parkland, and riversides. Examples can be found on the locations page. These can be discussed together and might be the same each session, or varied depending on preference and season (e.g. tide times). Please note that some car parks have a charge. Location and time are agreed prior to session commencing.

Walk and talk sessions provide the opportunity to be outside in nature, whilst the movement can help to free up the body and mind in releasing thoughts and emotions. This can be preferable to some when sitting indoors can sometimes feel intense and/or awkward. It is not about the distance or terrain walked, and quite often you can find yourself walking at a slower pace as you slow down to focus in on yourself. Accessible routes are also available.

  • Yes. Sessions can be online (video link) if preferred. If weather conditions are unsafe or unfavourable (e.g. high winds) then outdoors or walk and talk sessions will be moved online by prior arrangement.

  • As much as our nearest and dearest might want to attend sessions with you, or you would like them to be with you, it is requested they remain at home or to wait for you until after the session. This gives you the time and space to fully focus on yourself, giving the opportunity for you to be as open as possible, without distraction or judgement, as well as maintaining confidentiality.

  • No problem! Please contact me to find out more. Thank you.
